Architecture has been an interest of mine since watching a Frank Lloyd Wright film in high school. The idea, that one day I would be able to design my own dream house, or someone else’s home, always thrilled me.
As a graduate of NJIT, I realize that design is everywhere and even though my focus is on architectural design, as designers we use our knowledge to affect other aspects of life. From designing a building, to designing a chair or even a spoon. Design is an opportunity to impact all facets of everyday life.
A structure to me is like the human body, the foundation is the legs that keep it standing; the framework is the skeleton that keeps our body from following apart; the insulation is our muscles that help keep our bones covered and contain our body heat; the electrical and plumbing systems are comparable to our organs and nervous system; finally, the façade is akin to our skin. All these elements come together to create beautiful and functional spaces. All of which can be enhanced through the use of sustainable materials and practices, which I believe result in more “organic” designs. As an architect, I want to focus on creating spaces where people love to be in, with an earth-friendly focus, since buildings leaves a lasting imprint on our planet.
