New Milford Public Schools

IBC Autism Classroom Conversion

Renovations to 2,400 sq. ft. of under-utilized industrial arts shop space resulted in the creation of an inclusionary, cutting edge special education suite for elementary school children. The design of the room provides a multi-functional space that offers flexibility and optimal supervision. There is also a Kitchenette/Life Skills area and Toilet/Changing area. The finishes incorporate rubberized flooring that offers protection from falls; soft tones and warm colors to provide an inviting atmosphere and little distraction and a layout that promotes three distinct areas of instruction- General Classroom, Socialization and Occupational and Physical Therapy and movement.
