Revamping Ramsey High School's Gymnasium Entrance and Lobby
16 April 2024The challenge presented to us was the transformation of an existing, nondescript Gymnasium entrance, inconspicuously tucked away in the corner of the faculty parking lot. This entrance, consisting of six doors, lacked any distinct identity, failing to draw attention to its importance as the gateway to student athletes' achievements and the dynamic nature of student life.
Moreover, the lobby space was outdated and did not reflect the vibrant energy of Ramsey High School's athletic community. Our task was to create a fresh, interactive lobby area that celebrates student athletes and "game changers," becoming an inviting space for both visitors and students alike.
The goal was to design an environment that not only reinforces school spirit but also serves as a hub of community pride, enriching the overall high school experience.
Process & Approach

Enhanced Entrance Canopy and Signage
We designed a new entrance canopy that serves as a bold architectural statement, leaving no doubt about the significance of this space. Clear and prominent Signage directs visitors and students to the Gymnasium entrance, instantly drawing their attention.
Interactive Gathering Space
The outdated lobby was transformed into an interactive gathering space, engaging visitors and students right from the moment they step inside. Graphic displays and an interactive kiosk take center stage, offering a searchable, categorized database of images featuring hundreds of wall-mounted athlete plaques located throughout the entrance and corridor. Students can easily look up athletes by sport or name and are presented with the inspiring stories of these outstanding individuals.
Branding and School Spirit
Aesthetics and finishes play a crucial role in reinforcing school branding and spirit. Extensive use of wall, floor, and stair graphics proudly displays the school's identity, leaving a lasting impression on anyone who enters the space.
Custom Wall Mural
A stunning wall mural captures the essence of Ramsey's past and present scholar athletes, commemorating their achievements and pointing towards a bright future. This artwork serves as a constant reminder of the excellence fostered within the school's sports community.
Sophisticated Design Elements
To elevate the ambiance, we carefully selected various materials, lighting fixtures, and ceiling systems that imbue the space with a museum or college lobby atmosphere. This transformation ensures that visitors feel they are in a place of significance, reflecting the caliber of Ramsey High School's athletic achievements.
The redesigned area becomes a space where students, visitors, and faculty come together, sharing their passion for sports and embracing the spirit of Ramsey High School.
In conclusion, our innovative approach to the renovation of Ramsey High School's Gymnasium entrance and lobby has breathed new life into a once nondescript space. Now, it stands as a testament to the accomplishments of student athletes and the dynamic essence of student life, creating an environment that celebrates achievements and instills a sense of belonging within the school community.
